Applying protective sealers will provide the best defense against everyday stains. You can be certain that your tile, grout and stone will stay looking beautiful
How to test if your stone, tiles & grout are sealed?
Make sure surface area is clean, dry and free of waxes and coatings
Apply a tablespoon of water 1 inch in diameter to the stone surface
Allow the water to stand on the stone for 5-30 minutes
If surface is unsealed, the water will absorb into the stone and darken the surface (absorption speed will depend on porosity of the stone).
If surface is already sealed or if stone is very dense, the water will bead up and stand on the surface.
To prevent or limit staining problems in grout for ceramic tile, a grout sealer is recommended.
The grout is very porous (excluding the epoxy grout) if left unsealed it will be stained very easily.
